Two Photographs, 70 Years Apart
Taken around 70 years apart, these photographs capture a connection that runs through our family: a love of ceramics.
In this image, Doris Smith carefully applies handles by hand in a ceramics factory.
Great-grandmother to the youngest generation of the family behind Dunoon, Doris is part of a pottery heritage that began long before our business was founded.

A Family Tradition Continues
Today, that connection continues with Harriet Smith, our production manager, pictured alongside one of our skilled handlers at our Staffordshire factory.
Generations apart, the photographs offer a glimpse of the people and skills behind pottery making. They also remind us how closely our family’s story is tied to the ceramics industry.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
For us, these images are more than a comparison of then and now. They’re a reminder of the generations who came before us and the care that continues to go into our British-made mugs today.
We’re proud to carry that family tradition forward, working alongside skilled craftspeople who help bring every Dunoon piece to life. Pottery really is in our blood.
